Perhaps it was a Monday thing? Very disappointing dinner last night at the sushi bar. I should have anticipated problem when I saw the sushi chefs not busy, only 1 of 3 sushi counter displays in use, and LOW inventory in that one. Waiter was not experienced, worse edamame ever and the seaweed wrap on the tuna hand roll was impossible to bite. One pleasant surprise was the very unique menu item: Triple Bogie Roll. Didn't know how to eat the 4" diameter sushi menu item. tuna, salmon, Krab*, cucumber, cream cheese, avocado, fish roe, in tempura batter w/sweet house sauce. See photo. I didn't experience the Teppanyaki experience from what little I saw. Remember, it was a Monday night. Not worth the eye catching sign and façade.
Sushi was ok but ordered tempora chicken and it was like eating chicken tenders. Not worth the price. Not sure if I will go back again. Was regular customer from the opening and for many years. Moved away and now back again. Very disappointed. I let them know but never offered to make it right. Will be seeking out new restaurant even if I need to travel. Save your money.
Good food nice modern place
The food was very good, and the serving quick. After visiting alot of this kind of places around the world, this place was very disappointing and far away from what it should be. The serving should be in small portions with alot of different choices, and tastes. So this place had been to American, we get 2 serving, plus rice. Far far away from the real thing. But for people who don't know, it will be a good experience.
Great service and amazing food! The chef was nice and tried his best to entertain my children
Nice scenery but charges a dollar per white sauce portions are small and comes with no noodle rude staff and tried bs'ing me about homemade when I work at a hibachi restaurant myself and I hope everything is home made and not from a box
Best Japanese steakhouse anywhere around here food was amazing. Decor was beautiful and different then most of it's kind. Plus the prices were the same as any other steakhouse but the portions were way bigger. The only negative thing to say was how they sing happy birthday, its very loud and annoying/obnoxious.
Hostess was nice, but didn't explain anything. We just wanted something off the menu, but were brought to the Hibachi area. The waiter was very rude, but when we ordered, he was helpful and moved us to the other side where there is seating. Waitress was young and making errors, but kind.My fiance ordered sushi and loved it. I ordered chicken wings, which were very good. Food was excellent, just needs to work on the service.
Food is great. Not a fan of hibachi so we sat in dining room, which is just a little outdated and bright. Server was polite and attentive. Food was fresh just not as exciting and seasoned as I hoped therefore I gave it 4 stars. Will return and update.
I was really disappointed in the Hibachi. There was not really any interaction between chef and guests. I took my children for a fun dinner and it ended up being extremely boring! The Filet Mignon and Scallops were good but my daughter ordered Sesame Chicken and it was horrible tossed on grill with a brown sauce. Very bland.
Far beyond my expectations! Even better than Satos! This is a little gem in the rough, highly recommend!!! (Love the white sauce)
I really enjoyed the ambiance and great service. Food was delicious and drinks were good and strong! Would definitely visit again.
Second year I had my birthday dinner here. Beautiful atmosphere friendly staff. Amazing food. Always a nice time there
Incredible! My wife told me that this was the best place she's ever been to to get hibachi and she was right. The filet was super soft and everything was wonderful. The shrimp sauce was so good and the ginger salad was incredible. If you want the best hibachi in North Florida, this is the place you have to go. we actually live in Jacksonville and will drive down specifically for this hibachi place
I will never go to this place again. There were no measures of social distancing. The hostess was not wearing a mask. Tables were packed. The cook was dull and did not do ANY of the usual hibachi tricks that my kids have come to enjoy. I am so disappointed in their lack of care and respect for their customers. I will also be speaking to all at risk people and older people in my life about avoiding this restaurant.
Got take out. Not impressed at all. Food over cooked. Small portions and not very tasty. Use to be the place for sushi. Not anymore
Mike our cook was so awesome never had a bad experience I go often we love Mike and JP as our cooks tonight was so as nice and friendly as the day we met him many years ago when he cooked at the place he used to Takaya is a always wanna go back place
Absolutely no social distancing or 50 percent last night! Sat 15, yes you saw that correctly, 15 people at one table that was meant for 8-10 people at full capacity! Just not using good practices for 50 percent reopening! People from other table sitting so close we had to move! Waiter couldn’t even get around tables! Our waiter stated he was afraid for his own health, boss wouldn’t listen! Food good!
Their Social Distancing is sketchy but food and service were good.
My fiance and I absolutely loved this place. Our server, Lot, was amazing. He never hesitated to answer our questions. This was our first time at a restaurant of this caliber and he made it 1 million times better. The food was incredible. The decor inside was stunning. We will definitely be back.
Very good food. Family atmosphere
Great atmosphere, excellent service and delicious food.
I have never been to a Japanese steak house before. I enjoyed watching the show they do while preparing your food I was not so quick to catch the shrimp tail when the chef sent it my way 😂. I had the sirloin strip and chicken. My boyfriend had the shrimp and scallops he enjoyed his meal. My meal was cooked to perfection. The vegetables and rice was scrumptious. We will definitely be returning there.
The filet minion And chicken was outstanding
My fiancé has been wanting to take me here for two years. Well, we finally made it. So, where to start;. The outside is clean and very well taken care of. The structure is amazing and lit up. Once inside, the first thing I noticed was the ambiance. It's perfect. Not too light and not too dark. We did get seated very quick. They sat us at a table that is set for about 8 more people. We chose a time when it's not real busy, so it was just the 2 of us. The waiter was amazing and very efficient. The cook came out and he set up. It's amazing being able to watch him cook our food. I couldn't believe how good the food was. Fried shrimp with butter, steak cooked medium rare and so amazingly delicious. I didn't even know steak could melt in your mouth.
It was average. Which was much lower than my expectations. The cook did not seems to be much conversationist. Also some of the food was over cooked.
We did call ahead seating. When we got there the restaurant was not busy at all. We were told no longer than 15-20 mins. After being the only 4 people waiting for a table for more than a half hour we asked how much longer and were told 15-20 minutes more. Well we left and went to Tokyo's on Nova and we glad Takeya screwed up. We had a great meal and a great time.
There ginger dressing for salad is gross, calamari was long & narrow & shrimp were not that big. Takara in port Orange is way better. Can’t wait for them to open.
Great food. They had it ready for me and even brought it out to my car.
We had a beautiful evening and a wonderful meal and a great chef named J.P.
Always good! Everyone here us great the cooks are awesome and create great entertainment! The food is fresh and taste great! I've eaten here multiple times and it's great every time
I always love this place and the food. I'm never disappointed.
Been coming here for well over a decade. Treat us like family and have the best food in the country. I've been to 48 states and Takeya is the best Japanese Steak House there is!
Real fun time with great entertainment! Food is what you'd expect at a hibachi, but real fun atmosphere.
Had my bosses Bday dinner here wS a great experience
It was wonderful!! If you have a special event, you need to try this place out. We have been going there for birthdays, etc, for at least 4 yrs, we have never been disappointed! Our son just came home from Afghanistan and this was a perfect dinner. I would be thanking them for great food, terrific atmosphere. Yumm
Great customer service and awesome hibachi cook. Food is excellent too
Great food and service. Our chef was great!!
The food is fresh, the beers are cold, and Mike & Mike & JP are amazing. The sushi is well made and the white sauce is excellent. Can be a wait but 100% worth it
Most excellent food..Waitress a bit anxious...Night to remember for sure...
Love the staff, cooks and great owner. Fun place to go, always good food
Long wait. We called and asked to make reservations and told they don't take them. So we arrived at 7pm sharp and was told it would be a 20 min wait. While waiting 2 different groups came in after us and was seated before us because they somehow got a reservation. We didn't get seated until 745pm. The soup and salad was fine. The salmon sushi was smoked salmon, not regular raw salmon. The scallops we ordered had so much shell fragments in them and the rice was so burnt it was crunchy and tasted burnt. Definitely won't be going again. Better food at Tokyo for a way better price and atmosphere.
We love this place! Very tasty and fresh food. Beautiful atmosphere. Miso soup was the best I had ever tried.
food and service was excellent truly a wonderful experience!
Had a great meal here for the quarantine drove up got my food to go eat in the parking lot was really good
Very lively atmosphere with high spirits. Steak was excellent but a little more expensive than it should be.
Always a great dining experience, out with friends. Chefs put on a entertaining show while preparing dinner. The food is excellent. We drive past several other Japanese restaurants to dine here
Servers did a great job tending to our huge party. The food was on point and they bought out the food asap. I got the sashimi and it was all super fresh and a beautiful dish(ate it all before a picture).
Takeya is the gold standard restaurant for Japanese style dining in the Daytona/Ormond Beach area. Be it on the steak house side or sushi side of the building. There’s the option of traditional sushi offerings in a elegantly designed proper sit down restaurant or a group grill setting on the other half of the building. I’d rate either the best in the area for its consistently professional service and excellent food. A truly fine dining experience!
